Candice Patton Signs on For The Flash Season 9

In last week’s penultimate episode of The Flash season 8, time seemed to run out for Candice Patton’s Iris West-Allen. However, Iris has cheated death before, and she seems likely to do so again in the eighth season finale. Especially since TVLine is reporting that Patton has closed her deal to return for The Flash‘s upcoming ninth season. Candice Patton signs.

This makes Patton one of the few original cast members to commit to season 9. Naturally, everything hinged upon Grant Gustin agreeing to reprise his role as Barry Allen/The Flash, which he did last January. However, it’s unclear if The Flash‘s ninth season will be the last year for the show. Gustin and his on-screen wife, Patton, are only signed through the end of next season. If the show does get renewed for a tenth season, their deals will once again need to be renegotiated.

Earlier this year, another original cast member, Jesse L, Martin, was signed a deal to star in his own drama pilot on NBC. That means his character, Joe West, will not be back as a regular character in season 9. Regardless, the door is open for Martin to appear on a recurring basis.

TVLine’s report appears to indicate that Danielle Panabaker will also be back in season 9 as Caitlin Snow. Beyond Gustin, Patton, and Panabaker, the only regular cast members still on the show are Danielle Nicolet as Cecile Horton, Kayla Compton as Allegra Garcia, and Brandon McKnight as Chester P. Runk.

While The Flash has traditionally returned for new seasons in the fall, The CW is holding back season 9 for an early 2023 release. Presumably this will allow the network and the show’s producers to determine the fate of the series, and whether it will continue for a tenth season.
