Noah Hawley Teases Setting and Plot Details for Alien TV Series

If everything goes according to plans, next year will see a return to the Alien universe. For the first time, the franchise will welcome a TV series, one currently being developed at FX by Noah Hawley. The Legion creator is writing the script to bring the Xenomorphs — first brought to the big screen by Ridley Scott — into our living rooms.

“I’ve written a couple of scripts, the first two scripts, and we’re looking to make them next spring,” he said while talking with Vanity Fair. He also hinted that humanity — with its values and contradictions — would be in the spotlight once again. This time, it might also delve into the inequalities of this world by showing the men who ordered the space missions fans saw in the movies. “So you will see what happens when the inequality we’re struggling with now isn’t resolved.”

It also appears that the story developed in the series won’t involve Ellen Ripley. Perhaps there will be some indirect references, but Hawley’s words imply that actress Sigourney Weaver won’t play a part in it.

“It’s not a Ripley story,” he said. “She’s one of the great characters of all time, and I think the story has been told pretty perfectly, and I don’t want to mess with it. It’s a story that’s set on Earth also. The alien stories are always trapped… Trapped in a prison, trapped in a space ship. I thought it would be interesting to open it up a little bit so that the stakes of “What happens if you can’t contain it?” are more immediate.”

FX still hasn’t set a premiere date for Hawley’s Alien series.
