Tom Cavanagh and Carlos Valdes Are Leaving The Flash After Season 7

The current season of The Flash will mark the end of the road for two original cast members. According to Deadline, Tom Cavanagh and Carlos Valdes are both planning to exit the series by the end of the year.

Cavanagh and Valdes have been part of The Flash’s cast since the series’ first episode premiered in 2014. Valdes was introduced in season 1 as Cisco Ramon, a S.T.A.R. Labs engineer who later became the superhero known as Vibe. Meanwhile, Cavanagh has played multiple different versions of Harrison Wells over the last seven years. He also played Eobard Thawne/Reverse-Flash when he took on Wells’ appearance.

Valdes will make his final appearance as Cisco Ramon/Vibe in the season 7 finale later this year. However, Cavanagh’s send-off remains a mystery. It turns out that Cavanagh was originally planning to leave the series at the end of season 6. But when the COVID-19 outbreak forced the producers to re-work certain storylines, he agreed to stay on for a bit longer. In the latest season premiere, Cavanagh’s character sacrificed himself to restore Barry Allen’s speeding abilities. However, he has made recurring appearances on the show since then.

The Flash showrunner Eric Wallace also issued a new statement regarding Cavanagh and Valdes’ departures from the series:

“Tom and Carlos have been an integral part of our show for seven seasons, and will be greatly missed,” said Wallace. “Both are incredible talents who created beloved characters that fans and audiences around the world have come to love. Which is why we are happily keeping the door open for return appearances.”

The next episode of The Flash airs tonight at 8pm on The CW.
