Pennyworth Season 3 May Move From Epix To HBO Max

Two years ago, Epix debuted the Batman prequel series, Pennyworth; which focused on Bruce Wayne’s butler, Alfred Pennyworth (Jack Bannon), as a young man. Although the second season wrapped up last month, Deadline is reporting that the third season may jump networks. According to the story, HBO Max and Epix are currently negotiating a deal that would keep Pennyworth alive.

Apparently, the biggest issue to be determined is about the first two seasons of the show. For the deal to go forward, HBO Max wants the rights to run the first two seasons of Pennyworth in addition to the potential season 3. It’s somewhat surprising that HBO Max wants the series, because it has no tie-in with any existing Batman movies or TV shows. Plus, HBO Max already has a spinoff series in the works for The Batman, which will focus on Gotham’s police department.

Pennyworth takes place in the ’60s, with Alfred using his experience as a British SAS soldier to launch a security company. Alfred also encounters billionaire Thomas Wayne (Ben Aldridge), Bruce Wayne’s future father. Alfred goes on to work for Thomas while also bonding Martha Kane (Emma Paetz). In this continuity, Martha is an agent for the No Name League, and she’s more romantically interested in Alfred than Thomas.

The series also stars James Purefoy, Jason Flemyng Edward Hogg, Jessye Romeo, Ramon Tikaram, and Harriet Slater.
