Actor Reveals How Long That Mandalorian SPOILER Surprise Took

Warning: this article discusses a major Mandalorian spoiler for the season 2 finale.

Star Wars in general is pretty good at keeping surprises, but The Mandalorian overall, not so much this season. Perhaps because they had issues with timely merchandise for the well-concealed baby Grogu first season, most cameos leaked ahead of time. Before a single episode of season 2 aired, we basically knew about Cobb Vanth (Timothy Olyphant), Boba Fett (Temuera Morrison), Ahsoka Tano (Rosario Dawson) and Bo-Katan Kryze (Katee Sackhoff). But there was a big one nobody leaked.

As seen on the season finale, Luke Skywalker made a big return alongside R2-D2, and featuring digital de-aging. Obviously, that kind of special effect takes a while. A stunt performer did the action moves on set, while Mark Hamill did the face and voice acting. It’s possible, then, that none of the actors knew exactly what the final effect would be. Today, however, Hamill himself revealed just how long the process took.

Though he admonished against spoilers, the Jedi master couldn’t resist posting a hint yesterday:

Toy companies may have also been the source of some of the other leaks, as Hasbro clearly had a Bo-Katan action figure ready to go, as well as a Funko Pop of Grogu eating the Frog Lady’s eggs. But they also recently rereleased Jedi Luke as part of a Return of the Jedi wave, which seems like some awfully convenient timing. We ca n probably expect to hear more about Luke’s episode on Monday, when Lucasfilm usually considers spoilers fair game.

What did you think of Hamill’s participation? Let us know in comments.
