HBO Max Chief Discusses J.J. Abrams’ Love For Justice League Dark

This week, HBO Max is premiering a handful of new original series to greet its first round of subscribers. However, DC fans are going to have to wait longer to decide whether they want to sign up. WarnerMedia is currently developing new shows centering around Green Lantern and Justice League Dark, the latter of which counts J.J. Abrams as one of its executive producers. While speaking with Business Insider, HBO Max Content Chief Kevin Reilly explained how Abrams got involved with the show.

“Yes, he’s always loved [Justice League Dark],” said Reilly. “He always felt that there was a lot of opportunity there and an unexplored territory, and kind of a pond that he could play in exclusively.”

Abrams’ work with other popular franchises makes him a natural fit for the superhero genre. Although it should be said that the heroes in Justice League Dark aren’t exactly A-list. But there are a few who have already been adapted in live-action.

John Constantine and Swamp Thing have both had their own DC movies and TV shows. However, this will be the first time that these characters will share the screen together in this capacity. It’s still not clear which heroes or anti-heroes will appear in Justice League Dark. Regardless, Matt Ryan, who plays Constantine in The CW’s Arrowverse, is already lobbying for the chance to reprise his role.

Justice League Dark does not currently have a production start date.
