Report: Marvel Studios May Bring Ms. Marvel Series To Disney+

Kevin Feige has previously hinted that Marvel Studios had plans for Ms. Marvel. Now, those plans may have come into focus at D23.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Marvel Studios is developing a Ms. Marvel series for Disney+. Additionally, the official announcement may come down later today at D23’s Disney TV panel. Bisha K. Ali, a writer for Hulu’s Four Weddings and a Funeral, is reportedly the showrunner for Ms. Marvel.

Ms. Marvel was formerly the codename of Carol Danvers before she became Captain Marvel. The current Ms. Marvel, Kamala Khan, was created by Sana Amanat. Stephen Wacker. G. Willow Wilson. Adrian Alphona. and Jamie McKelvie in 2013. She is the first Muslim heroine to headline her own Marvel series. Wilson and Alphona launched the new Ms. Marvel comic in 2014, and it quickly became a breakout hit. Ms. Marvel has subsequently been inducted into both the Avengers and the Champions.

Part of Kamala’s backstory is that she idolizes Carol Danvers, and the older heroine is Kamala’s inspiration for becoming a superhero. Kamala is also a Pakistani American and part Inhuman. In fact, it was the exposure to the Inhuman’s Terrigen mists that gave Kamala her size-changing powers.

It’s unclear if Carol Danvers will also influence Kamala’s live-action counterpart. But given that Marvel Studios has already laid out its Phase 4 plans through 2021, the likely launch date for Ms. Marvel would be in 2022. And because Marvel Studios is producing the series, there’s a strong possibility that Ms. Marvel will show up in future films as well.
