Ultimate Spider-Man Mobile Game Launching

by SuperHeroHype

Leading mobile publisher MFORMA has released its latest Marvel title, Ultimate Spider-Man. The new action platformer, based on Marvel’s popular “Ultimate Spider-Man” comic character and Activision, Inc.’s console video game of the same title, is now available to mobile users in Europe and the U.S. and will soon be available in Asia. Featuring superior graphics and animation, detailed action sequences and plot elements, and the unique ability to play the game as Spider-Man or as Spider-Man’s arch enemy, Venom, Ultimate Spider-Man is the highest quality Spider-Man adaptation ever made for the mobile platform.

“Fans will love how Spider-Man comes vividly to life using a simple single-button web-slinging, wall-climbing mechanic,” said Brian Selzer, MFORMA’s senior director for Marvel Mobile. “They’ll also enjoy being able to play as either Spider-Man or as Venom with two distinctly different gameplay experiences. As Spider-Man, players get to wrap up criminals in webbing, rescue civilians, and fight the nefarious villain, Venom. As Venom, players can indulge their dark side and catch civilians with tentacles, feed on them for strength, and try to hunt down Spider-Man before he can save the day. Overall, the graphics and animations are certain to please even the most discerning Spider-Man fans.”

Ultimate Spider-Man is based on the “Ultimate Spider-Man” series of Spider-Man comics and the Activision console version of the same name. It is a 2-D sideways-scrolling action game that includes a variety of challenging missions, interesting characters and surprises, as well as splash panels from the comics that provide an added layer of interest. Players will recognize villains such as the Green Goblin and Shocker and will feel part of Spider-Man’s world in urban scenes with civilians, police officers, and gangs passing by. When playing as Spider-Man, you can use a wide range of moves, including the wall jump, web swing and rebound attack. When playing as Venom, you can use super jumps, tentacle combos, and the scary “feed attack” while you destroy the city or “feed” on your victims. The game features 24 levels of play, 12 each for Spider-Man and Venom, and a simple, highly-responsive control system that makes this game instantly satisfying to play.

“Comic book adventures will never lose their appeal and ;Ultimate Spider-Man; brings one of the world’s most beloved comic book adventures to the mobile platform with careful attention to detail,” said Selzer. “The game is a joy to play on many levels-it’s fun to experience the incredibly smooth animation of Spider-Man climbing walls, slinging webs and otherwise performing his famous Spider-Man antics, and it’s fun to wreak havoc as the villainous Venom, facing off against the ultimate web-slinging Super Hero.”

Activision Extends Spider-Man Agreement

by SuperHeroHype

Activision, Inc. announced today that the company has signed an agreement with Spider-Man Merchandising L.P., a limited partnership between Marvel Entertainment, Inc. and Sony Pictures Consumer Products Inc., to extend its exclusive worldwide publishing rights to the phenomenally successful “Spider-Man” motion pictures through 2017. The license grants Activision the right to publish entertainment software products based on subsequent “Spider-Man” movie sequels or new television series.

Under its current agreement with Spider-Man® Merchandising, Activision will develop and publish interactive entertainment games based on Columbia Pictures/Marvel Entertainment, Inc.’s upcoming feature film Spider-Man 3, which is set for release in May 2007. To date, Activision has published games based on Spider-Man and Spider-Man 2.

For calendar 2004, Spider-Man 2 was the #1 movie-based videogame in the U.S. according to NPD Funworld and for calendar 2002, Spider-Man was a top-five selling title in the U.S., according to NPD.

“This agreement allows Activision to continue bringing our own brand of interactive magic and vision to this unique, evergreen property and to build on the success we have already achieved with the ‘Spider-Man’ movies,” said Mike Griffith, President and CEO, Activision Publishing, Inc. “Games based on this phenomenally successful property bring the film’s popular characters to life and allow consumers to extend their experience with original missions and additional Marvel characters beyond those of the ‘Spider-Man’ movies.”

Tim Rothwell, Worldwide President, Consumer Media Group, Marvel Entertainment, added, “Activision has done a tremendous job in translating ‘Spider-Man’ into compelling, top-selling interactive games. Given their performance and long-term commitment to the franchise, as well as their creative excellence Activision is the ideal partner for movie-based ‘Spider-Man’ games, a business that complements our recent extension of their interactive license for ‘classic’ Spider-Man.”

According to Bruno Maglione, President, Marvel International Inc., “Activision has consistently demonstrated their ability to execute ‘Spider-Man’ theatrical games on a global basis. We are pleased that both Marvel and Activision will be extending our relationship for many years to come on this important franchise.”

X-Men 3 Updates

by SuperHeroHype

As the X-Men 3 promo machine gets set to kick it up a notch in December (the teaser trailer in theaters with “King Kong” and the official site becoming active), we’ve received new updates on the anticipated third installment over the Thanksgiving holiday.

First up is ‘A1ant’ from

Recently discovered info reveals that Kelsey Grammer’s BEAST will have one of the most interesting roles in X3. Not due to his blue fur or his amazing acrobatics, but due to his point of view in the film. Brett Ratner’s X3 will really dig deep into the minds of mutants who are not blessed with ‘normal’ looks.

Halle Berry’s Storm, and Hugh Jackman’s Wolverine can easily go out into public, and not be feared based off their looks, but what about the mutants who have more physical mutations? How do they think? We got a taste of it in X2, with the interesting exchange of words between Rebecca Romijn’s Mystique and Alan Cumming’s Nightcrawler, and now that very subject will be busting at the seams in the third chapter, with Beast and other groups of ‘strange’ looking mutants.

Even though he’s lived with his mutation for some time, Grammer’s Beast will still be struggling with his physical self. Dark blue, gray, black fur, and strong animal-like features aren’t exactly looked upon as ‘normal’ and at times in the film we will see him questioning something that might be able to help his problems.

Expect knock-out acting scenes shared between Grammer and Patrick Stewart’s Professor X, Ian McKellen’s Magneto, and Storm, among others we can’t name yet.

You want drama? X3 will surely bring it to you. If done right, X3 will be the most dramatic X-film yet!

Sounds great! Next, ‘David’ wrote in with more about the “X3” feature on the Fantastic Four DVD (story spoilers ahead!):

I just hoped to have a first look at Beast or Juggernaut or something else before the official trailer hits with King Kong, but I found it quite disappointing. You can find a brief interview with Avi Arad where he tells how big the movie will be and bla bla bla. The only thing worthy is the description of the San Francisco bridge’s destruction by the hand of Magneto. The DVD extra shows sketches for the action sequence in which the bridge falls down and cars and trucks “fly away” from the carriageway. Actually Arad explained how the Magneto character escalates in violence in this movie and from what the penciled breakdowns showed that’s just true.

‘Stephen’ also told us about a Patrick Stewart appearance:

Patrick Stewart was on ‘The Chris Evans Show’ on BBC Radio 2 on Saturday and amongst other things he mentioned that although they were all sworn to secrecy about the details of X3, Alcatraz plays quite a big part in the film. And also that they were looking to hold the premiere there, although that may not actually happen.

Stay tuned for more news soon!

The Latest on Spider-Man 3 Filming

‘Retroman’ wrote in with a new shooting location for Spider-Man 3:

It turns out they have set up shop in Santa Clarita, California as well to shoot some scenes (special effects?). The official website of the Santa Clarita Film Office have listed some days they shot last week. The Pirates of the Carribean sequels, War of the Worlds and X-Men 3 are just some of the big-budget movies that also opted to shoot in this area recently. The first Spider-Man shot there as well.

Superman Returns Barbie Dolls?

by SuperHeroHype

Superman Homepage has the first pics of Superman Returns tie-in merchandise:

We’ve all wondered when the first item of merchandise for “Superman Returns” would become available, but I don’t think anyone had any idea the first thing to feature Brandon Routh’s likeness would be a Ken Doll with a Lois Lane Barbie Doll.

We’ve already seen a Supergirl, Wonder Woman and Catwoman version of Barbie. Now there’s a Lois Lane “Barbie” doll due to be released in December, and she’ll be joined by a Superman “Ken” doll.
