Marvel’s cameo machine may be gearing up to pull one of its original heroes out of retirement for Avengers: Secret Wars. As per a new rumor, Jeremy Renner will suit back up as Hawkeye for one of the most aniticipated Avengers movies. This report came just days after the actor himself dropped a cryptic hint about his future in the franchise.
Jeremy Renner’s Hawkeye could return in Avengers: Secret Wars
Scooper DanielRPK has claimed that Renner will return as Hawkeye in Avengers: Secret Wars. The rumor follows a mysterious Instagram story Renner posted, showing a close-up of his iconic Hawkeye costume from the Marvel Cinematic Universe movies.
The timing raised eyebrows, especially since it lines up with reports of additional photography currently underway. Renner is also confirmed to be reprising Hawkeye’s bow for an upcoming Disney theme park ride, though that alone doesn’t confirm a film comeback.
Despite the buzz, Jeremy Renner is not currently listed on Disney’s official Avengers: Secret Wars cast roster, and the actor stated in October 2025 that he had no plans to appear in either of the upcoming Avengers films.
His theme park return doesn’t change that official stance. Still, history suggests skepticism might be warranted. MCU stars have misled the public about their involvement before, most notably Andrew Garfield and Tobey Maguire both denying their roles in a previous Spider-Man crossover, only to appear in the finished film.
That precedent keeps the door open for Hawkeye to show up in an Avengers movie down the line, even if the current reports deserve some caution. Adding fuel to the fire, M’Baku actor Winston Duke recently confirmed to CNA that additional photography for the next Avengers film is now underway.
With the movie just months from release, any new scene shot at this stage would likely serve smaller moments or cameos rather than major plot changes. Richtman himself has suggested this round of filming is being used to “add a lot of cameos,” with Hawkeye presumably among them.
