The cancellation of the Buffy the Vampire Slayer reboot seems to have left a sour taste in Seth Green‘s mouth, who recently called out Hulu for scrapping the revival of the fan-favorite series. Green, who played the guitar-playing teen and ferocious werewolf Daniel “Oz” Osbourne in the show, opened up about Hulu’s decision to axe New Sunnydale in a recent interview, explaining exactly why the move left him “disappointed.”
Seth Green shares his frustration over Hulu canceling Buffy the Vampire Slayer reboot
While speaking with Polygon, the 52-year-old actor revealed that he didn’t agree with the decision to cancel Buffy the Vampire Slayer: New Sunnydale instead of working to improve its quality.
“I know they shot a pilot,” Green noted. “I know that Sarah [Michelle Gellar] was excited about it, which tells me that there’s a lot of good stuff going on in it. And I was definitely disappointed to hear that it was being abandoned, rather than made perfect for the fans.”
The comedy veteran believes that the demand for a Buffy the Vampire Slayer reboot continues to flicker among fans. “There remains an enormous opportunity for both a new generation and legacy parents to enjoy these stories together,” he remarked. “That’s the biggest thing I saw from Buffy. As soon as it hit DVD, parents were sharing it with their kids.”
Green spoke further about the series’ cultural relevance, explaining that he believes Buffy perfectly captures the struggles of adolescence. He added that the supernatural elements of the show served as an effective metaphor for several teenage issues. “This show is such a good shepherd through that time,” he exclaimed.
Despite Hulu’s decision to cancel the much-awaited Buffy the Vampire Slayer reboot, Green claims that the franchise has enough material to expand in the future. “I think there are still plenty of stories to tell,” the actor stated.
