Directed by Eli Roth, the film stars Cate Blanchett and Kevin Hart in lead roles. Blanchett plays the role of Lilith, and Hart portrays Roland, while Jack Black stars as Claptrap. The narrative of the film follows Lilith, who returns to the dangerous planet Pandora. Joining a group of unlikely companions, she begins a quest to search for Atlas’ missing daughter. Along the way, the team faces several threats while uncovering a dangerous secret.
According to The Numbers, the film had a production budget of $115,000,000. However, it only managed to gross 30% of its production budget. Borderlands secured a worldwide box office collection of $32,938,296, per The Numbers. In the opening weekend itself if earned 55.6% of its total gross collection, which accumulated to $8,601,572. The film currently has a 10% rating from critics and a 48% rating from audiences on Rotten Tomatoes.
The original video game Borderlands was first made available in October 2009 for the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360. The latest series of the video game, Borderlands 4 released in September 2025.
