Batman’s second appearance in the DCU may come soon, but not as many would expect. A new report suggests the Dark Knight will show up in the upcoming feature centered on two Robins, giving fans their first real look at this universe’s Caped Crusader.
DCU Batman could return in another animated project
Brazilian reporter @mundosdadc claims the upcoming animation from DC Studios will take place within the main DCU continuity. The project, which follows Dick Grayson and Jason Todd, will reportedly feature a brief appearance from Batman. The reporter said: “We’ve just received word that Dynamic Duo, a long-running animation from DC Studios focused on Dick Grayson and Jason Todd, will be playing at the DCU and will also feature a brief appearance from the Batman from that universe, premiering the new version of the Bat in theaters.”
Creature Commandos gave audiences only a shadowy glimpse of Batman during its finale. This new animated feature could give a proper introduction to the character. The report indicates the film could set up elements of Batman mythology before his solo live-action outing in The Brave and the Bold.
DC Studios has not confirmed the information. The project originally carried an Elseworlds label, though James Gunn previously said there “might be a way” to bring it into the DCU (via ScreenRant). Several scoopers have since supported the new report. The story centers on Grayson and Todd, who meet as young street rats before their paths diverge. Grayson becomes Robin, while Todd falls in with the Red Hood Gang. Their shared history eventually leads to a confrontation between the former friends.
The production will blend multiple techniques, including CGI, 2D animation, miniatures, models, puppetry, and animatronics. Scott Neustadter and Michael H. Weber wrote the latest script draft. The animated feature releases in theaters on June 30, 2028. If the report proves to be true, audiences will finally meet the DCU Batman long before The Brave and the Bold moves forward.
