Batman DCU Update May Explain Why There’s Been No Brave and the Bold Announcements

A new update on The Brave and the Bold may offer an explanation for the long silence surrounding the Batman DCU movie. The film was originally announced as part of James Gunn and Peter Safran’s Chapter One slate in 2023.

The latest update comes from filmmaker and columnist Dan Marcus, who posted on X after an unverified casting rumor began surfacing. Marcus claimed he had heard from the director Andy Muschietti that work on the project was on hold. He also added that the pause is until the Warner Bros. Discovery and Paramount Skydance merger situation is settled.

“I have no idea if this is true or false (I’m assuming it’s definitely false), but I did hear from Muschietti that all work on The Brave and the Bold is on hold until after the merger is settled,” Marcus wrote. However, DC Studios has not announced that production has been paused because of the merger.

When could we finally get some Batman DCU announcements?

The ongoing legal battle over Paramount’s proposed $110 billion acquisition of Warner Bros. Discovery has reportedly affected announcements for several DCU projects. With the legal challenges still ongoing, the uncertainty could affect major projects that depend on WB’s future direction.

That could potentially explain why The Brave and the Bold has remained quiet despite being in development for several years. The movie could face additional delays if the studio’s ownership situation affects its development.

Fans may have to wait for greater clarity on the merger before DC Studios makes further announcements. Meanwhile, The Batman Part 2 could also be a deciding factor in how the studio wants to avoid having two Dark Knights at the same time.

The movie has been in development since its initial announcement in 2023. Andy Muschietti, who directed The Flash, was confirmed to helm the project. It will focus on a new incarnation of Batman/Bruce Wayne and his son Damian Wayne, who becomes Robin. Gunn has also indicated that members of the Bat-Family and the League of Assassins could appear in the film.

A recent development related to the screenplay came in January 2026. Christina Hodson, who wrote The Flash, came aboard to write the screenplay for The Brave and the Bold.

For now, The Brave and the Bold has no official release date.
