Star Trek: Picard Season 2 Casts Annie Wersching as the Borg Queen

A familiar enemy will reacquaint herself with Jean-Luc Picard when the next season of his Paramount+ series arrives next year. According to Deadline, Annie Wersching has booked a recurring role as the Borg Queen on Star Trek: Picard.

The Borg Queen made her first appearance in Star Trek: First Contact. As her name suggests, she controls the cybernetic Borgs, all of which are linked through a hive mind. However, she never actually refers to herself as “queen.”

Most recently, Wersching has shown up in Bosch and The Rookie. She also starred as Leslie Dean in Hulu’s Runaways. In 2013, she provided the voice and motion capture for Tess in The Last of Us.

Two other actresses have played the Borg Queen in various Star Trek films and TV shows. Alice Krige was the first to play the character when First Contact hit theaters in 1996. Susanna Thompson later took on the role in two episodes of Star Trek: Voyager. However, Krige reprised her role again in Voyager’s series finale in 2001.

The Borg Queen isn’t the only character from the Next Generation and Voyager eras who is set to make an appearance in Picard season 2. John de Lancie is also coming back to play Q in live-action for the first time since 2001. Last year, de Lancie also provided his character’s voice in an episode of Star Trek: Lower Decks.

Paramount+ still hasn’t announced a premiere date for Star Trek: Picard season 2.
