Ewan McGregor Talks About Channeling Alec Guinness in Obi-Wan Series

At D23, Ewan McGregor was finally able to admit that he’s playing Obi-Wan Kenobi again for a new Star Wars Disney+ series. McGregor had a little bit more to say during an interview with Men’s Journal.

“I want to get closer and closer to how Obi-Wan felt while Alec Guinness was playing him. I feel like I’m grayer and nearer him in age [at 48 years old], so it’ll be easier to do that.”

McGregor also notes that he plans to re-watch his performances in the previous Star Wars films at some point, to get back into the role. He then confirmed that the series would film 6 one hour episodes sometime next summer.

From there, McGregor confirmed the timeframe for the series.

“The storyline sits between Episode III and Episode IV,” explained McGregor. “It will be interesting to take a character we know in a way and show him — well, his arc will be quite interesting. I think, dealing with the fact that all the Jedi were slaughtered with the end of Episode III. It’s quite something to get over.”

The full interview is available here. In it, McGregor also discusses his role in the horror film Doctor Sleep. He also talks a bit about his role of Black Mask in the upcoming DC film, Birds of Prey in February 2020.

Obi-Wan arrives on Disney+ sometime in 2021. What do you think about McGregor getting back into the iconic role? Let us know in the comments below!
