Deadpool 2 Director Wants To Helm Marvel’s Blade Reboot

Last month, Marvel Studios floored its community by confirming a Blade reboot, with Mahershala Ali taking over the title role. However, Blade won’t be appearing until Phase 5 at the earliest. Regardless, Deadpool 2 director David Leitch has already expressed interest in working on the project.

While speaking with Screen Rant, Leitch expressed his excitement about the possibility of working with Marvel on the reboot. Especially since he got his start with the original Blade in 1998.

“I love Blade,” explained Leitch. “And it’s actually one of the first stunt jobs that I was in, the original Wesley Snipes one. I was a stunt performer in that move. I was in the blood club. You remember that scene? Yes, dancing around in the recycled special effects blood. It was great.”

Leitch also had some thoughts about the new Blade himself.

“Mahershala (Ali) is such a great actor, and I’ve been fortunate to work with some great actors, and I never go wrong that way,” said Leitch. “Having him play that role is a big deal and would be really exciting. So, yeah, I would love to have that conversation.”

As a director Leitch has helmed both John Wick and Atomic Blonde. His latest film, Fast & Furious Presents:  Hobbs & Shaw, in theaters now.
