Sigourney Weaver Will Return for Jason Reitman’s Ghostbusters

When Jason Reitman announced that he was developing a sequel to his father’s Ghostbusters series, the door was opened for the cast from the original films to return. Now, we know that Sigourney Weaver will be among them. The veteran actress recently confirmed to Parade Magazine that she will once again play Dana Barrett in the new film.

The last time Weaver appeared as Dana was in Ghostbusters II in 1989. Sometime between the first two movies, Dana and Bill Murray’s Peter Venkman had broken up and she gave birth to a son named Oscar. By the end of the second film, Dana and Peter had rekindled their romance. Weaver returned to the Ghostbusters world in the female-centric reboot in 2016. She made a brief appearance as the mentor of Kate McKinnon’s Jillian Holtzmann.

Surprisingly, Weaver might not be the only actor returning to the franchise next summer. Parade’s article notes that she’s “set to reunite with Bill Murray and Dan Aykroyd” in the sequel.

“It’s going to be crazy working with the guys again!” Weaver told the magazine.

Neither Murray nor Aykroyd, or even Ernie Hudson have been officially announced for the new film. Regardless, all three actors have expressed their willingness to get involved.

Weaver joins a cast that currently includes Finn Wolfhard, Carrie Coon, and Mckenna Grace. Details surrounding their characters remain a secret. However, Reitman announced earlier this week that he was planning a surprise for Sunday’s Ghostbusters fan event on the Sony Pictures Studio Lot in Los Angeles. It’s possible that additional casting information will be announced then.
