Exclusive Preview: X-Men Blue #33 sends Magneto to the Future

No matter how many times Marvel tries to redeem Magneto, it never seems to stick. Perhaps the X-Men writers prefer having an evil Master of Magnetism. But the thing is, Magneto isn’t really a villain and he’s not necessarily wrong. Magneto has spent most of his adult life trying to prevent another holocaust, but he’s failed over and over again to protect his people. Next week, in the pages of X-Men Blue #33, Magneto’s motivation will be rekindled by writer Cullen Bunn and guest artist Marcus To.

In our exclusive preview from the next issue of X-Men Blue, we discover what happened to Magneto when he briefly disappeared into the future during the recent “Mothervine” story. He was badly beaten and nearly killed by the mutants under Mothervine’s control, but Magneto will probably wish he had stayed in the past once he sees what’s in store for the world that he created. If anything, it’s even worse than the Days of Future Past timeline. If all hope has been lost, then why would Magneto feel the need to hold back after seeing this outcome? He’s tried playing a more heroic role and it just hasn’t worked. Back in the present, Magneto has once again demonstrated the ruthless streak that made him the X-Men’s greatest adversary. Somehow, we don’t think Magneto is going to be talked down from his next fight with the original X-Men from the past. After all, they will probably get to go home soon, while he has to live in the present.

Here’s the official description from Marvel: “To escape his present, Magneto travels to the future! But even 20 years later, there will always be X-Men…”
