Exclusive Preview: X-Men Blue #31 Goes Inside Magneto’s Head

For years, the original five X-Men have been trapped in the present alongside their surviving counterparts as the Marvel Universe has crumbled around them. Now, the O5 team may be wrapping up their time in the present, but Jean Grey, Cyclops, Beast, Iceman, and Angel have some unfinished business with Master of Magnetism: Magneto!

Although Magneto pledged that he had changed his ways, he secretly constructed a time platform to send the 05 team back to the past. More alarmingly, Magneto has even killed the Brotherhood from the future and hid their deaths from the young X-Men. And in the aftermath of the Mothervine crisis, Magneto has vowed to hunt down his one-time ally, Emma Frost a.k.a. The White Queen.

In Superhero Hype’s exclusive preview for X-Men Blue #31, writer Cullen Bunn and artist Jorge Molina reunite to show us a lost moment from their early run together on this title. Within these preview pages, Jean Grey accepts Magneto’s invitation to look inside his mind. What she finds is Max Eisenhardt, Magneto’s younger self, who is endlessly trapped in his nightmares from the Holocaust. It’s Magneto’s greatest fear given form, and they will soon face the one foe he could never truly defeat. This is only a glimpse of Magneto’s literal demons, but it won’t be enough to stop him from threatening everything that the X-Men have worked so hard to achieve. Their next battle is just around the corner.

Here’s the official description from Marvel: “MAGNETO: HELLFIRE HUNTER! • After the events of ‘Cry Havok,’ Magneto is on a mission of vengeance!  His target? Emma Frost, the White Queen! But there’s only one group who will stand in his way…”
