Tom Hiddleston Reveals Why Loki Was Cut from Avengers: Age of Ultron

Tom Hiddleston reveals the surprise reason he was cut from Age of Ultron

In June of 2013, writer/director Joss Whedon revealed that Tom Hiddleston’s fan-favorite Loki would not appear in The Avengers sequel, which at the time was still without its title. Following that, production came and went on the sequel, and Idris Elba revealed in November of 2014 that he would reprise his role of Heimdall in the movie and that Hiddleston’s Loki would appear in the scene as well. However, when Age of Ultron hit theaters, Hiddleston was absent. Speaking with Digital Spy, the actor revealed why the scene was cut, saying:

“I was part of the dream sequence for the character of Thor, and I shot for a day, enjoyed it very much. Then I received a phone call from Kevin Feige, actually Joss emailed me, basically Kevin said that in test screenings audiences had over-emphasized Loki’s role. So they thought that because I was in it I was controlling Ultron, and that it was imbalancing people’s expectations. So Joss and Kevin were like ‘Let’s cut it because it’s confusing people.'”
