Marvel Reveals Plans for New Spider-Man and Doctor Strange Comics

Earlier this month, it was revealed that in preparation for the “All-New, All-Different Marvel,” Marvel Comics would be publishing a free 64-page preview of their new universe. Ahead of this reveal however, two of the new comics have been revealed including Spider-Man by Brian Michael Bendis and Sarah Pichelli and Doctor Strange by Jason Aaron and Chris Bachalo.

The new Spider-Man title will see the “Ultimate” universe Spider-Man, Miles Morales, be folded into the main Marvel continuity and drop the “Ultimate” from his namesake, taking on the full mantle of Spider-Man.

“I can promise you that the status quo for Miles will be very different,” Bendis says. “Some people already know that he is a member of the All-New All-Different Avengers. That’s just the beginning.”

Peter Parker will likely still have a presence in the new version of the Marvel Universe however as the character was previously seen in a teaser image, and a billboard for the company that bears his name can be seen in the preview art for the series.

On the mystical side, EW has the first details on Doctor Strange, this version of which Marvel editor Nick Lowe says is “going to get hurt real bad, real quick.”

“We wanted a Doctor Strange who was always having to work for what he gets, and to show that when he shows up and uses his powers,” Jason Aaron says. “It’s not like Captain America throwing his shield or Thor throwing his hammer. Strange has to worry about repercussions that those other heroes don’t have to worry about, because he’s a Sorcerer Supreme. We’re talking about the forces of magic. So whatever he does has repressions. Any of this stuff with magic, there’s always a cost to it.”

Both series are set to debut later this year. Check back here for more news on the latest Marvel Comics as we learn them!
