Avengers: Age Of Ultron Reshoots Set for January

Looks like Earth’s Mightiest Heroes are getting an even mightier sequel, as the UK’s Daily Mail is reporting that Joss Whedon & Co. will be re-assembling the Avengers: Age of Ultron cast in January for two weeks of reshoots at England’s Pinewood Studios.

According to the tabloid, the additional shooting is being mounted in order to add “a bit more kick-ass on an extravagant scale.” Translation: more action, beefed-up set pieces or perhaps just an extra punch or two here and there for spice. They specify that Chris Hemsworth, Robert Downey Jr., Mark Ruffalo, Jeremy Renner, Paul Bettany, Scarlett Johansson and –most interestingly- Tom Hiddleston have all been asked to make themselves available.

If you recall, Idris Elba spilled the beans in November that he would be returning as watchful Heimdall alongside Hiddleston’s Loki in Age of Ultron, and now that the cat (or is that the raven?) is out of the bag it seems Whedon has resigned himself to give the fans what the want, i.e. all Loki all the time.

While more Hiddleston is always good news, fans shouldn’t take the reshoots as a sign that the film is at all in trouble, although there have been rumblings that Marvel’s new golden boys Joe and Anthony Russo might take over the franchise (Avengers: Infinity War) from Whedon after their tour of duty on Captain America: Civil War. This would no doubt sadden fans who want to see Whedon pay off what he started with villain Thanos in the first Avengers, including The Mad Titan’s Shakespearean courtship of Mistress Death.

In the May 2015 release, when Tony Stark tries to jumpstart a dormant peacekeeping program, things go awry and Earth’s Mightiest Heroes, including Iron Man, Captain America, Thor, The Incredible Hulk, Black Widow and Hawkeye, are put to the ultimate test as the fate of the planet hangs in the balance. As the villainous Ultron emerges, it is up to The Avengers to stop him from enacting his terrible plans, and soon uneasy alliances and unexpected action pave the way for an epic and unique global adventure.
