New Details Explain Amanda Ripley in Alien: Isolation

When the news of Alien: Isolation’s protagonist broke, there was one question on gamer’s lips:  How is Amanda Ripley involved?  Since we know nothing about her, it seems easy to explore that character.  There was a feeling that Ripley’s daughter was untouchable.  Some people asked the question, “Why wouldn’t have Weyland-Yutani informed Ripley about her daughter’s adventures when she awoke?”

The answer to that is simple and obvious: Why would they? The company has proven, if nothing else, to be secretive and Burke wasn’t the most forthcoming person anyway. Still the question remains: How does Amanda Ripley end up in space and with an alien? Well, Creative Assembly, developers of Alien: Isolation finally shed some light on just how that happened.

Speaking with Kitguru, Alien: Isolation community manager, Nee N broke it down:

“The game is set fifteen years after the events of Alien, and Amanda has grown up, always wondering what has happened to her mother. She’s currently working for Weyland-Yutani and is approached by an employee of the company, Samuels, to say that they‘ve found the black box flight recorder, ejected from the Nostromo in the moments before its destruction.”

Nee stated: “It’s on a station called Sevastopol and Samuels offers Amanda the chance to go with them and to unlock the secret of what happened to her mother.”

For those curious about cannon, Fox was involved in the game, even providing unreleased material to aid in the design of the station and vehicles. Alien: Isolation is due out late this year.
