The Amazing Spider-Man 2 Officially New York’s Biggest Production

We all can guess that Sony’s The Amazing Spider-Man 2 was going to be big, being that it was a sequel to a movie that grossed $750 million worldwide, but now it’s official. New York State Governor Andrew Cuomo announced today, via a story in today’s AM New York, that the movie to be the biggest production in New York history.

All of the four previous Spider-Man movies have shot exteriors and locations in New York City, but director Marc Webb’s The Amazing Spider-Man 2 will be the first movie in the series shot entirely in New York State, generating thousands of jobs and millions in revenue.

The 150-day shoot began filming around New York City last month with lots of photos released from Chinatown and other parts of the city, including a funeral scene at a Queens cemetery, which may be bad news for one of the cast members. As mentioned earlier, they will be filming a chase scene in Rochester in upstate New York before moving onto soundstages in Brooklyn and Long Island.

Governor Cuomo was quoted as saying: “New York has the resources, talent and locations to help make ‘The Amazing Spider-Man 2’ a blockbuster hit.”

The Amazing Spider-Man 2 is scheduled for release on May 2, 2014.
