The theory centers on a simple casting change. Kathryn Newton played Cassie in Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania after Emma Fuhrmann portrayed the character in Endgame. One X thread argues Marvel could reshoot Cassie’s older appearance so the character looks consistent across the timeline. Nothing confirms that change yet, however.
Fans aren’t exactly rolling out the welcome mat. One commenter called the idea “disrespectful to the original actress,” while another bluntly asked, “why not just keep Emma?”
A separate post joked that changing classic movies should be illegal and even called for the Russo brothers’ arrest. Others simply rejected the idea as unnecessary.
The speculation gets messier because another rumored Encore adjustment involves Thaddeus Ross. William Hurt originally played the character, while Harrison Ford later inherited the role after Hurt’s death. Whether Marvel actually alters Ross’ Endgame footage remains unconfirmed, making both theories firmly speculative for now.
The timing gives the rumors some extra fuel. Avengers: Endgame returns to theaters on September 25, 2026, as Avengers: Endgame Encore, with new material expected to help connect the saga to Avengers: Doomsday. Marvel has not publicly confirmed that either Fuhrmann’s Cassie or Hurt’s Ross will receive replacement footage.
