The X-Men are all but here with Jean Grey’s MCU entry. Marvel announced the cast of its first outing with the Merry Mutants, including Inde Navarrette as Rogue, Kit Connor as Cyclops, and Sadie Sink as Jean Grey.
Tom Pelphrey almost essayed Charles Xavier, the heroic mutant leader known as Professor X. However, he lost out on the role, which he revealed was probably for the best. Speaking with The Hollywood Reporter, he humorously said, “I’ve also got a fat head. I have a watermelon. I was like, “If we’re even going to have this conversation, go into your AI image generator and look at me with a shaved head. That alone could be horrifying enough.” I’m not kidding.”
Who is playing Professor X in the MCU X-Men movie?
Among the cast members announced for the Marvel Cinematic Universe’s take on the X-Men, Christopher Abbott has been revealed as the next actor to play Professor X. James McAvoy and Sir Patrick Stewart have essayed the role before him, appearing in Fox’s version of the franchise. Sir Patrick Stewart has also reprised the role in the MCU and will do so again later this year in Avengers: Doomsday.
Abbot’s casting was announced at D23, after Sadie Sink’s super-secret character in Spider-Man: Brand New Day was revealed to be Jean Grey, a key character in multiple X-Men storylines. Marvel’s next outing with the X-Men will be headed by Jake Schreier, who received a lot of praise for his work on Thunderbolts*. Lee Sung Jim (Beef) and Joanna Calo (The Bear) have been tapped to write the film.
Apart from the X-Men, Marvel is also looking to finally bring the MCU’s version of Ghost Rider to the big screen, with Ryan Gosling essaying the role of the Spirit of Vengeance. Black Panther III was also announced at SDCC, with David Jonsson taking up the mantle for the first time since Chadwick Boseman. Ghost Rider and Black Panther III are both scheduled for release in 2028, along with X-Men.
