Superman: Legacy – James Gunn Taps GOTG Vol. 3’s John Murphy to Score DCU Movie

John Murphy will compose the score for DC’s Superman: Legacy.

On Threads, Superman: Legacy writer and director James Gunn announced that Murphy is composing the score for the upcoming DCU movie that is scheduled to release in 2025.

“Happy to announce that my frequent collaborator John Murphy is scoring Superman: Legacy,” Gunn wrote. “John was one of the first people I called when I finished the script many months ago as I knew how incredibly important the score was to this production. John has been working tirelessly since, creating hours worth of music that we’ll play on set and shoot to & use in the edit & that will eventually be recorded with a glorious symphony for all of you. Welcome to the DCU, John!”

Murphy previously scored 2021’s The Suicide Squad and 2023’s Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3, both of which were directed by Gunn. He also worked on 1998’s Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrels, 2000’s Snatch, 2002’s 28 Days Later, 2006’s Miami Voice, 2007’s Sunshine, 2007’s 28 Weeks Later, and 2010’s Kick-Ass, among other titles.
