Way back in 2018, it was reported that a Jamie Foxx Spawn movie was in the works, with McFarlane on board to write and direct the film. According to the creator, Foxx is still his man for the job.
Speaking with ComingSoon, McFarlane was asked about the project’s status, especially with the ongoing WGA and SAG-AFTRA strikes, as well as health scares that Foxx has had this past year. According to McFarlane, though, he has full belief in Foxx until the actor says he can’t do it himself.
“Until Jamie says he can’t, he’s still my guy,” said McFarlane. “I’m very loyal to people, and Jamie was my guy and has been my guy. He’s had a bit of a setback and he says he’s going to get back to the top of the mountain. I have no doubt. I know Jamie — he is a very strong-willed, determined human being. So he tells me, “Don’t worry about me, Todd. I’ll be there when the bell rings. I’ll be there.” So I have complete and utter confidence.”
The Spawn reboot’s development
The Spawn movie has been in development since 2015. Alongside Foxx as the titular character, Jeremy Renner has also been rumored to play Twitch since 2018. It’s currently unclear as to whether or not Renner is still part of the project.
