Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 Concept Art Shows an Older Adam Warlock

New concept art featuring some of Adam Warlock’s early designs in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 have been revealed, giving fans a look at a slightly different version of the character.

What did Adam Warlock’s concept art look like?

Marvel Studios concept artist Jerad S. Marantz posted a number of images of an earlier Adam Warlock design on his ArtStation. These designs show an older Adam Warlock with a slightly different look, though elements of the final Will Poulter look seem to be present.

In the caption for the images, Marantz said:

“I got to do some early designs for Adam Warlock for Guardians of the Galaxy volume two [sic]. It’s always such a huge honor working with the team over at Marvel visual development. Big thank you to Andy Park for bringing me on for this incredible project. The final design for Adam warlock was done by my good friend Constantine Sekiris!”

“In the film, our beloved band of misfits are looking a bit different these days,” reads the Marvel Cinematic Universe sequel’s synopsis. “Peter Quill, still reeling from the loss of Gamora, must rally his team around him to defend the universe along with protecting one of their own. A mission that, if not completed successfully, could quite possibly lead to the end of the Guardians as we know them.”

Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 was directed by James Gunn and was released in theaters on May 5. The sequel heavily features the backstory of Rocket — the armed and snarky raccoon voiced by Bradley Cooper — and his history with the film’s villain, The High Evolutionary (played by Chukwudi Iwuji). Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 is now playing in theaters.
