James Gunn Had Conversations With Marvel About Guardians’ MCU Future

As DC Studios Co-CEO and Guardians of the Galaxy series director James Gunn’s time at Marvel Studios comes to a close, he’s confirmed that talks have taken place involving the future of the Guardians of the Galaxy in the MCU.

Has James Gunn talked with Marvel about the future of the Guardians of the Galaxy?

As part of a mini-Q&A that Gunn hosted on Twitter, a user asked the director if he has had any conversations with Marvel Studios about their plans for the Guardians of the Galaxy now that Gunn is leaving Marvel. In his response, James Gunn confirmed that he has had such discussions, simply stating, “Yes.”

Though stars like Dave Bautista and Zoe Saldaña have confirmed they’re finished with the series, it seems a different iteration of the team may have a future in the MCU.

Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 was directed by James Gunn and was released in theaters on May 5. The sequel heavily features the backstory of Rocket — the armed and snarky raccoon voiced by Bradley Cooper — and his history with the film’s villain, The High Evolutionary (played by Chukwudi Iwuji). Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 is now playing in theaters.

Gunn’s upcoming projects at DC Studios include the television series Creature Commandos and the DC Universe Superman movie, Superman: Legacy. He’s also set to write the comedy movie Coyote vs. Acme with Jeremy Slater and Samy Burch, which is a live-action/animation hybrid movie based on the Looney Tunes character Wile E. Coyote.
