Natalie Portman Hints At the Scope of Thor: Love and Thunder’s Deleted Scenes

As of next week, there’s more than one Thor in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. For the first time since 2014’s Thor: The Dark World, Natalie Portman’s Jane Foster is back in Thor: Love and Thunder. And this time, Jane is also Thor. Or, the Mighty Thor, to be precise. Director and screenwriter Taika Waititi loosely adapted Jason Aaron’s Thor comic book run for the new film. But it wasn’t possible to include everything from the comics. While speaking with Collider, Portman indicated that a lot was cut out from the film. But she’s hopeful that the deleted scenes will resurface. Natalie Portman hints.

When asked if she was sad to see certain scenes cut from the movie, Portman replied “So much. So much, I mean, that’s the joy and the sorrow of a Taika Waititi project is that he creates so much brilliance and so much material that the movie could be like an infinite number of things. And it like inevitably means that incredible, hilarious, moving comedy and drama ends up not there. So, there’s a lot. I mean, there’s full planets that are not there anymore.”

“I pray that it’ll end up in like a DVD extra somewhere or that it comes out somewhere,” added Portman. “Because I mean, yeah, it’s pretty remarkable stuff.”

Portman also offered a teaser for something that has been glimpsed in the trailers.

“I don’t want to spoil anything, but I think we know that there’s a kind of world of gods,” said Portman. “I think that’s been in some of the trailers. And so some of the gods I’m sure you know, which ones, one in particular was hilarious to me.”

“It’s incredible to see,” continued Portman. “I think that’s part of what is such a eye opening when you see the finished version is how many incredible artists work on it after what we do to create what actually the audience experiences. Because most of what you see is effects artists.”

Thor: Love and Thunder will hit theaters on Friday, July 8.
