Dave Bautista Shares His Goodbye To Drax the Destroyer

On more than one occasion, Dave Bautista has said that he’s done playing Drax the Destroyer after Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3. And while that film has finally finished production, Bautista doesn’t appear to have changed his mind. On his Instagram account, Bautista wrote “Haven’t found the words yet. It ended so suddenly and I was on to my next film before I could process it all. End of a journey that changed my life.”

Bautista is an ex-wrestler who began pursuing acting as a full-time career in 2009. However, it was his appearance as Drax in 2014’s Guardians of the Galaxy that transformed Bautista into an in-demand performer. Drax was his breakout role, which he reprised in both Guardians of the Galaxy sequels, Avengers: Infinity WarAvengers: Endgame, and the upcoming Thor: Love and Thunder. Bautista will also be back for The Guardians of the Galaxy Holiday Special later this year.

Last year, on his Twitter account, Bautista explained his reasons for leaving the role behind. He also suggested that Drax could be recast at some point in the future.

Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 will hit theaters on May 5, 2023.
