The Green Knight Featurette Explains Origin of the Legend of Sir Gawain

The upcoming The Green Knight movie had a long-gestated production, but now it seems ready to debut in theaters. In preparation, A24 just released a brand new featurette for the film. For those unfamiliar, it retells the origins of the Legend of Sir Gawain. Over the years, many people were interested in the original story, including the Lord of the Rings author J.R.R. Tolkien. Now, the legend will inspire a new adaptation, bringing the Arthurian tale to the big screen once again.

The Green Knight cast features Dev Patel, Joel Edgerton, Barry Keoghan, Ralph Ineson, as well as Alicia Vikander and Sean Harris. The official synopsis reads as follows:

An epic fantasy adventure based on the timeless Arthurian legend, The Green Knight tells the story of Sir Gawain (Dev Patel), King Arthur’s reckless and headstrong nephew, who embarks on a daring quest to confront the eponymous Green Knight, a gigantic emerald-skinned stranger and tester of men. Gawain contends with ghosts, giants, thieves, and schemers in what becomes a deeper journey to define his character and prove his worth in the eyes of his family and kingdom by facing the ultimate challenger. From visionary filmmaker David Lowery comes a fresh and bold spin on a classic tale from the knights of the round table.

The Green Knight will debut in theaters on July 30.
