Archenemy Trailer Introduces Joe Manganiello’s Homeless ‘Superhero’

This year has already given us a few unconventional takes on the superhero genre, including Bloodshot and Project Power. But Archenemy could very well be the strangest of them all. RLJE Films has just debuted the latest trailer for the new movie, which stars Joe Manganiello as a less-than-average crimefighter.

Manganiello plays Max Fist, a homeless boozehound who claims to be a superhuman from another dimension. Naturally, almost everyone dismisses Max as a raving lunatic, but a teenager named Hamster (Skylan Brooks) wants to hear more. Max tells him that the source of his abilities, which allow him to punch holes through space-time, doesn’t exist in this universe. However, Max will have to rely on brute strength when a gang of criminals led by The Manager (played by It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia and A.P. Bio star Glenn Howerton) threatens Hamster and his family.

Archenemy comes from writer and director Adam Egypt Mortimer. Last year, Mortimer garnered notice with his psychological horror film Daniel Isn’t Real, which premiered at South by Southwest and earned favorable reviews from critics. His new film co-stars Zolee Griggs, Amy Seimetz, and Paul Scheer. Producers Elijah Wood, Daniel Noah, and Josh C. Waller are also reuniting with Mortimer on Archenemy through their SpectreVision banner. The trio have previously produced other offbeat horror films like Mandy and Color Out of Space.

Archenemy will hit theaters and VOD platforms on December 11.
