John Boyega Expresses Frustration With Disney Over His Star Wars Role

It seems that the new Star Wars trilogy not only left a large share of fans unsatisfied but also some members of the cast. Most recently, John Boyega has been the loudest voice to discuss his frustration with his role as Finn. While speaking with the UK version of GQ, Boyega revealed all his irritation with Disney, who, according to the actor, pushed his character to the side .

“Like, you guys knew what to do with Daisy Ridley, you knew what to do with Adam Driver,” he said. “You knew what to do with these other people, but when it came to Kelly Marie Tran, when it came to John Boyega, you know fuck all. So what do you want me to say? What they want you to say is, ‘I enjoyed being a part of it. It was a great experience…’ Nah, nah, nah. I’ll take that deal when it’s a great experience. They gave all the nuance to Adam Driver, all the nuance to Daisy Ridley. Let’s be honest. Daisy knows this. Adam knows this. Everybody knows. I’m not exposing anything.”

The actor went on to stand up for J.J. Abrams, whom he says did a great job on Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalkerregardless of the criticism.

“Everybody needs to leave my boy alone,” he stated. “He wasn’t even supposed to come back and try to save your s***.”

John Boyega’s career took flight after being cast as Finn, a former stormtrooper who flees the First Order and joins the Resistance. Previously, he got a lot of attention from fans and critics alike with his breakthrough role in 2011’s Attack the Block.
