Paramount Pushes Dungeons & Dragons Movie Back To 2022

Dungeon Masters and their fellow party members are going to have to wait another six months for their favorite tabletop RPG to hit the big screen. Due to the coronavirus pandemic, Paramount (via Deadline) is shuffling the release dates for a number of their upcoming tentpoles, including its long-gestating Dungeons & Dragons reboot. The studio is now planing to release the film on May 27, 2022.

Dungeons & Dragons was originally supposed to hit theaters on November 19, 2021. That was assuming it could finally move beyond the pre-production stage. The reboot was facing a host of setbacks even before COVID-19-related shutdowns began sweeping the entertainment industry. In the last five years, the film has undergone a studio change, directorial shakeups, and script rewrites. Regardless, Paramount managed to lock in John Francis Daley and Jonathan Goldstein to helm the movie last summer. Earlier this year, Daley also confirmed that he and Goldstein were taking their own pass at the screenplay.

Paramount also announced new release dates for the next two Mission: Impossible installments. M:I 7 will move from July 23, 2021 to November 19, 2021. Additionally, the eighth Mission: Impossible movie will now bow on November 4, 2022 instead of on August 5, 2022 as originally planned. The studio will also release Chris Pratt’s next sci-fi headliner, The Tomorrow War, on July 23, 2021. All of these movies are co-productions between Paramount and Skydance.
