Roberto Orci Will Write a Marvel Movie For Sony

Nearly a decade ago, Robert Orci co-wrote Sony’s Amazing Spider-Man 2. However, the lackluster response to that film helped pave the way for Spider-Man to enter the MCU. Now, Orci is getting a second chance to write a Marvel movie for Sony.

Via The Wrap, Orci will script an upcoming Marvel based film that is set within Sony’s Universe of Marvel Characters. The report describes it as a “Spider-Man spinoff,” while also noting that it does not share continuity with the current Marvel Studios Spidey films. Instead, it will share a cinematic universe with Venom and Morbius. As part of a long term contract with Marvel, Sony has the rights to develop films for nearly 900 Spider-Man adjacent characters. However, not all of them can carry their own movie.

Orci previously co-wrote the first two Star Trek reboot films, the first two Transformers movies, and co-created Fringe, Sleepy Hollow, and Hawaii Five-O.
