Report: Warner Bros. is Still Looking for The Batman’s Penguin

Earlier today, The Batman officially welcomed Paul Dano into its cast as the Riddler. The news came less than 24 hours after Jonah Hill passed on a role in the movie. Various sources indicated that Hill was the frontrunner to play either the Riddler or the Penguin. Now, Deadline is reporting that the film will feature both villains, and Warner Bros. is currently looking for the right actor to don Oswald Cobblepot’s top hat and monocle.

According to this new report, director Matt Reeves wanted Hill to play the Penguin in the upcoming reboot of the Batman franchise. But apparently, the two reached an impasse when Hill expressed his desire to play the Riddler instead. Hearing that Hill was originally sought to play Cobblepot is interesting, since the character has normally been portrayed as much older in the comics and in other media. If Hill took on that role, he would be the youngest actor to play the character in live action. That distinction currently belongs to Gotham’s Robin Lord Taylor.

It’s also worth noting that Deadline describes Zoë Kravitz’s Catwoman as a villain as well, hinting that her character won’t fill her usual role as one of Bruce Wayne’s love interests…at least not in this installment. The report asserts that Catwoman, the Riddler, and the Penguin will all “haunt” Robert Pattinson’s Batman. However, whether they do this individually or if they plan to target the Dark Knight as a team remains to be seen.

Do you think The Batman can survive with three different villains? Who would you cast to play Oswald Cobblepot in the film? Let us know in the comment section below!
