Marvel Reveals the Identity of Hawkeye’s Protege in Avengers: Endgame

Warning: The following post contains a spoiler from Avengers: Endgame

Hawkeye will live on in the Marvel Cinematic Universe after Avengers: Endgame thanks to a new series coming to Disney+. However, Clint Barton will reportedly pass the torch to Kate Bishop, who took up Hawkeye’s mantle in the comics. This announcement caused fans to speculate if Kate was the girl practicing archery with Clint in last month’s Endgame trailer. But according to ScreenCrush, this isn’t the case.

Marvel recently added hi-res Endgame photos to their press site featuring captions that identify the actors shown. One of the images depicts the archery lesson and specifies that the girl is actually Clint’s daughter. Endgame co-director Joe Russo’s daughter, Sophia Russo, plays the role in the film. As ScreenCrush notes, Sophia previously had a brief cameo in Captain America: Civil War as a teenage girl. Clint’s daughter was last played by twins Isabella and Imogen Poynton in Avengers: Age of Ultron.

Endgame will presumably fill us in on what Hawkeye’s been up to since Steve Rogers broke him out of the Raft at the end of Civil War. Needless to say, the fact that Clint has adopted the Ronin persona suggests that he’s been through some dark times. The go-to theory among fans is that Clint lost his family, and the scene from the trailer is most likely a flashback to a happier time. Since the filmmakers chose an older actress to play the character in Endgame, this adds more evidence to support the idea that Endgame jumps forward in time after Avengers: Infinity War.
