Showrunner Chris Mundy addressed the bold creative decision in an interview with IGN. Chandler himself embraced his character’s fate enthusiastically. “Not just for the storyline and all that, but what a great way to end the first episode of this show,” Chandler said. His co-star Macdonald found filming the discovery scene quite difficult. “Just the thought of what was going to happen, I did not look forward to it. It was quite emotional, seeing him like that,” she said.

The show jumps back and forth between time periods, so audiences will continue seeing Chandler as Hal. However, in 2026, John notices his old mentor no longer wears the Green Lantern ring. That missing ring sets up a central mystery for the season ahead.
