Cobra Ninjas, Sgt. Slaughter Lead April G.I. Joe Figure Reveals

April’s G.I. Joe reveals, as debuted on a Hasbro livestream, mostly consisted of repaints and redecoes. But they saved the best for last, with an army building Cobra Ninja two pack, and the long-awaited reveal of Sgt. Slaughter. Both typify the differences between the Real American Hero story and the actual U.S, military. In Hasbro’s storyline, the armies of both good and evil rely heavily on ninjas. And a pro-wrestler who in real life has always boasted the epitome of a dad bod is instead the ultimate jacked-up drill instructor.

It seemed like Hasbro might never get around to Slaughter. Previous authorized figures of him in a  similar scale already came to the G.I. Joe crowd-funded knockoff Valaverse, and a WWE variant in Mattel’s Comic-Con exclusives last year. But now he’s back where he belongs, as an impossibly muscular version of himself ready to whip colorful military specialists into shape.

The initial design, which includes removable hat, glasses, and whistle, derives from the figure that originally came with his “Triple T” vehicle. Knowing Hasbro, they’ll likely do a version based on the mail-away figure in G.I. Joe logo pants down the line. Especially since the rest of today’s reveals consisted of minor variants. Storm Shadow and Zartan will join Walmart’s exclusive retro-card series, in repaints that more closely resemble the vintage toys. Duke and the RAM cycle join Tiger Force with a bright repaint. Finally, Snake Eyes and Timber get a color scheme more in line with the Renegades cartoon.
