Susan Sarandon Headlines Marvel’s Wastelanders: Black Widow Podcast

If the MCU had launched in the 1970s, Susan Sarandon could have been a great choice to play Black Widow. Unfortunately, the legendary actress missed her chance to embody the character on the big screen. But Sirius XM has found another way for Sarandon to bring the Russian superspy to life. Starting next month, Sarandon will lend her voice to Marvel’s Wastelanders: Black Widow, the latest scripted podcast set in a post-apocalyptic future.

The new podcast follows Wastelanders: Star-Lord and Wastelanders: Hawkeye, which featured grizzled versions of Peter Quill and Clint Barton traveling across a barren United States. Nearly 30 years prior, the country was decimated by the world’s most powerful supervillains in an event that later became known as The Day the Villains Won (or V-Day, for short). It’s here that fans will also meet the future Black Widow. However, this may not be the same heroine that listeners are familiar with. According to the official description, Sarandon’s character is named Helen Black. This may simply be a new alias for Natasha Romanoff. And in typical superspy fashion, Helen is harboring some major secrets about her past.

Helen’s story begins when she moves into a new apartment in The Onar, a high-rise located in Midtown Manhattan. She claims that “problems with an ex” brought her to what’s left of New York City. But when a S.H.I.E.L.D. security analyst begins investigating Helen’s section of the building, her secrets begin to come to light.
