Diamond Select’s Lord of the Rings Line Adds a Wizard and an Orc

Looks like Diamond Select‘s The Lord of the Rings line of action figures will survive beyond the initial build-a-figure waves. The first three waves of two figures each all came with bonus parts to build a large Sauron. Wave 4, coming in December, makes no mention of similar extras. Its Uruk-Hai figure comes loaded with alternate heads and weapons for army building, while Gandalf the Grey’s description only mentions his staff and sword. That would make him unusually light on accessories for this line, so there may be more we don’t know yet.

While the official description feels somewhat vague, advance images show at least a helmeted and unhelmeted head for the Uruk-Hai. “The journey continues, with another series of detailed action figures based on the Lord of the Rings film trilogy! Gandalf the Grey makes his debut in the line, with his staff and his sword Glamdring, and the other figure in the assortment is a customizable Uruk-Hai Orc, including multiple interchangeable heads and weapons. Each features over 16 points of articulation, and each comes packaged in a full-color window box. Designed by Eamon O’Donoghue, sculpted by Gentle Giant Studios!”

The figures, anticipated this fall, will retail for around $25 each. Entertainment Earth currently has the set of two up for preorder, along with singles. The Uruk-Hai lacks the requirement to look like any one actor, but appears fiercely detailed.

Diamond says to expect the figures in December. Entertainment Earth says October. The bottom line?  A wizard arrives precisely when he intends to.
