1980’s Battle Beyond the Stars Spawns New Sybil Danning Action Figure

Every connoisseur of ’80s sci-fi movies knows Battle Beyond the Stars, and any who don’t need to change that. Producer Roger Corman’s $2 million attempt to cash in on Star Wars proved a breeding ground for future talent. Jimmy Murakami (When the Wind Blows) directed the movie, written by John Sayles, scored by James Horner, with special effects by James Cameron, Gale Anne Hurd as production manager, and even Bill Paxton as an on-set carpenter. A loose remake of The Magnificent Seven in space, it starred the likes of Richard Thomas, George Peppard, John Saxon, Robert Vaughn, and Sybil Danning. Now, 41 years later, the movie will get its first action figure. And fittingly, it’s Danning.

Saint-Exmin the Valkyrie kicked Danning’s career as a B-movie and scream queen into overdrive throughout the ’80s. She showed skin and kicked ass, piloting a fast ship with extra firepower that she finally uses in a last-ditch kamikaze attack. For many young men who saw the movie, she was easily the most memorable thing about it. Even though this film featured a hero spaceship which also had breasts.

Continuing their relationship with Scream/Shout Factory, NECA designed a Saint-Exmin figure to coincide with a new steelbook edition of the movie. Like the other figures they’ve done for such projects, it’s 8-inch “retro-style” and limited to only 2,000. It’s also unfortunately a one-off, with NECA confirming there won’t be more from the film. Fans can preorder her with or without the Blu-ray, but why would any fan of hers not pick that movie up?

Will you collect Saint-Exmin before she’s gone?  Let us know in comments.
