First published in 2007, The Umbrella Academy was an immediate yet eclectic classic. It inspired a hit Netflix series and established My Chemical Romance vocalist Gerard Way as a comic writer. Now, both Way and the series he co-created are returning to Dark Horse Comics with a new miniseries, subtitled “Plan B.”
The Umbrella Academy: Plan B will pick up where the previous volume, “Hotel Oblivion,” left off in 2019. That series ended with the introduction of another superhero team called The Sparrows. “Plan B” will establish that the Sparrows also share a connection to UA founder Sir Reginald Hargreeves. However, their goal is to conquer the world rather than protect it.
The Umbrella Academy: Plan B creative team outlined
Gerard Way is not alone in returning, joined by original Umbrella Academy artist Gabriel Bá. He will be illustrating every issue of the six-issue “Plan B” miniseries and creating two covers for the first issue. The creative team is completed by colorist Dave Stewart and letterer Nate Piekos.
“Telling this story with Gabriel would become, as it is today, such a special part of my life,” noted Way. “This is not only because we would evolve as artists, but because we had the opportunity to grow up over a pretty crazy adventure together. Each chapter of this story seems to form and coalesce into its own organism. Sometimes as a screaming baby on a subway car. Other times a bird kicked out of its nest. And it’s because of this I am just as excited for Umbrella Academy: Plan B as I was when we went on this trip together with Apocalypse Suite.”
In addition to the two covers by Gabriel Bá, the first issue of The Umbrella Academy: Plan B will feature seven other variant covers. These were produced by an impressive line-up of amazing artists. All nine covers may be viewed below.
