Ultimate Black Panther #1 Preview Reveals T’Challa’s Wife

Marvel Comics has released an official preview for the fast-approaching debut issue of Bryan Edward Hill and Stefano Caselli‘s Ultimate Black Panther.

Ultimate Black Panther #1 hits comic shops this coming Wednesday. Revealed exclusively by CBR, a six-page preview establishes the duo known as Moon Knight‘s brutal campaign to take control of Africa. The preview also reveals that on Earth-6160, T’Challa/Black Panther — the reigning king of Wakanda — is married to none other than Okoye — High Mentor of the Dora Milaje.

An official synopsis for Ultimate Black Panther #1 reads as follows: “THE NEW ULTIMATE BLACK PANTHER! In the wake of ULTIMATE INVASION, Khonshu and Ra — the force known together as Moon Knight — are seeking to expand their brutal control of the continent of Africa. In response, the lone bulwark against them, the isolated nation of Wakanda, will send forth its champion … its king … the Black Panther! From the creative minds of Bryan Hill (BLADE, KILLMONGER) and Stefano Caselli (X-MEN RED, AVENGERS) comes a bold new take on the world of Black Panther and Wakanda!”

Black Panther’s role in the new Ultimate Universe

Of course, T’Challa being married to Okoye is one of several status-quo shifts coming in Ultimate Black Panther. Back in the main Marvel Universe, Black Panther was actually married to Storm of the X-Men for a time. In the new Ultimate Universe, however, Storm is neither an X-Man nor T’Challa’s love interest. Rather, she is in a relationship with classic Black Panther villain Erik Killmonger — who isn’t a villain at all on Earth-6160. He and Storm are freedom fighters who seek Wakanda’s help in liberating Africa from Moon Knight.

This month, Hill and Caselli’s Ultimate Black Panther becomes the second ongoing series to launch as part of Marvel‘s new Ultimate Universe — following Jonathan Hickman and Marco Checchetto’s Ultimate Spider-Man. Peach Momoko’s Ultimate X-Men keeps things going in March. Marvel will announce additional Ultimate Universe titles at a later time.

Ultimate Black Panther #1 goes on sale Wednesday, February 7 from Marvel Comics.
