Marvel’s Cosmic Heroes Unite For Annihilation – Scourge Event

Over a decade ago, Marvel’s Annihilation crossover revitalized its cosmic heroes. The sequel, Annihilation: Conquest, also reintroduced the heroes who formed the new Guardians of the Galaxy. Now, Marvel is adding a third chapter to its Annihilation series, and the latest threat is bringing out some of the cosmic big guns. However, the Scourge may prove to be far too deadly even for them.

Via Marvel.com, the publisher has announced five new Annihilation – Scourge one-shots that will debut in December. November’s Annihilation – Scourge Alpha #1 will also kick off the story before putting Nova in the spotlight. Matthew Rosenberg and artist Ibraim Roberson are joining forces for Annihilation – Scourge: Nova #1. In that story, the Scourge will put Richard Ryder in the unenviable position of teaming up with Annihilus. In the first Annihilation crossover, Annihilus was the big bad who slaughtered most of the Nova Corps.

Christos Cage and artist Diego Olortegui will follow that tale with Annihilation – Scourge: Fantastic Four #1. When the FF are warned about the pending invasion, they find that the dimensional tear is much worse than they expected. The FF also have a personal connection to this conflict, as Johnny Storm was once a prisoner of the Annihilation wave inside the Negative Zone.

Annihilation – Scourge: Silver Surfer #1 has original Annihilation co-writer, Dan Abnett and artist Paul Davidson on board. Fans who have kept up with Silver Surfer Black should know that his powers aren’t what they used to be. The Surfer could also be dying after his recent ordeal. And in his diminished state, Silver Surfer may not be strong enough to stand up to the Scourge.

Michael Moreci and artist Alberto Alburquerque are tackling Annihilation – Scourge: Beta Ray Bill #1; which finds Bill overwhelmed by the Annihilation and also on the verge of defeat. The four one-shots will converge in Annihilation – Scourge Omega #1, by Rosenberg and artist Manuel Garcia. According to Marvel, “In the face of the Annihilation, there is no more room in the cosmos for heroes or villains—only survival.”
