Embrace doom, for this is the Year of the Villain! DC’s latest event has tipped the scales away from justice, as Lex Luthor has taken it upon himself to upgrade the bad guys. Now it’s time for Roman Sionis, a.k.a. Black Mask, to step up and become an even greater villain.

In Superhero Hype’s exclusive preview for Black Mask: Year of the Villain #1, Tom Taylor and artist Cully Hamner show us Roman’s early years in Gotham. Roman was forced to be friends with Bruce Wayne long before Thomas and Martha Wayne were murdered. But Bruce’s tragedy only fueled Roman’s psychosis. In the present day, Lex Luthor is about to give Black Mask the opportunity of a lifetime.
