Marvel Launches Black Panther Spinoff Series, Agents of Wakanda

Last year, as part of the latest Avengers relaunch, Black Panther was named the new leader of the team. Subsequently, T’Challa put together his own group, the Agents of Wakanda, to run black ops spy missions for the Avengers. This fall, the Agents of Wakanda are getting their own series from Jim Zub and artist Lan Medina.

Via Marvel.com, the new ongoing series, Black Panther and the Agents of Wakanda, will follow Okoye, Gorilla-Man, Ka-Zar, and the original Wasp, as they handle  “some of the strangest and most sinister enemies in the Marvel Universe.” Other members of the team include John Jameson/Man-Wolf, Fat Cobra, Broo, and American Eagle.

“This is a strike force of misfits and monsters tasked with defending humanity and that gives me the freedom to tell a huge range of stories—serious and sadistic, epic and emotional,” said Zub. “Jason [Aaron] assembled a really bold group of weird and wonderful heroes. I’m using that as the foundation for the series and building up from there. Black Panther is at the forefront, of course, but each story will also rotate in or out other agents as needed, mixing up our character dynamics to keep it fresh and fun. The Agents of Wakanda are part of the broader Avengers support structure, but also operate independent of Earth’s Mightiest Heroes, dealing with a staggering array of dangers, big and small.”

Zub also hinted that both Ka-Zar and Gorilla-Man’s secrets will play a big part in the series.

“Both Ka-Zar and Gorilla-Man carry secrets that will cause strife as our series rolls onward,”noted Zub. “Ka-Zar’s secret is one he’s trying to run away from while Ken Hale’s is more immediate, and it undermines his important role as Chief of Security for Avengers Mountain (as readers of Jason’s Avengers are already aware!).”

Black Panther and the Agents of Wakanda #1 will hit comic stores in September. You can see two of the covers in the gallery below. Are you intrigued by this new spinoff series? Let us know in the comment section!
