Christopher Nolan’s The Odyssey is extending its IMAX 70mm run. The epic has added more showtimes through September 30, 2026. The extension comes after overwhelming demand from audiences worldwide. Additional Screenings are now available at 39 IMAX 70mm locations. Tickets are currently on sale.
The extension will stretch The Odyssey’s historic IMAX run to 11 weeks, giving fans more time to experience Nolan’s latest film in the large-format presentation. The film has already set a major IMAX box office record since its July 17, 2026 release.
The Odyssey becomes the highest-grossing IMAX release ever
The Odyssey has earned $457 million across IMAX screens worldwide. It’s now the highest-grossing IMAX release of all time. The film has also made $66 million from IMAX 70mm screenings across 41 locations. The format has also recorded an impressive $1.6 million average per screen.
The film made history before its release as the first feature film shot entirely with IMAX film cameras. Nolan and cinematographer Hoyte van Hoytema worked closely on the camera technology used for the film.
The production used both original and new IMAX film cameras. The new model is called “The Keighley” in honor of IMAX’s late Chief Quality Officer David Keighley and his wife, Patricia. It features improved software, better functionality, and reduced noise. A specially developed “blimp” allowed the cameras to capture synchronized sound, making it possible to shoot the entire film in IMAX. Van Hoytema called it an essential piece of equipment for the production.
The film also required a massive amount of film stock. The Odyssey used 2.1 million feet of film during production, with more than 260,000 feet shot with the new IMAX cameras. The film is presented in IMAX’s 1.90:1 expanded aspect ratio throughout. At select IMAX 70mm and IMAX with Laser locations, it is presented in the taller 1.43:1 ratio.
With screenings now extended through September 30, audiences have more opportunities to see Nolan’s The Odyssey in IMAX 70mm.
